Win Streak Reaches 15 for Men's Volleyball with Sweeps Against SJBK and NJCU

The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's volleyball team extends its win streak to 15 with a pair of Skyline Conference sweeps against St. Joseph's-Brooklyn and New Jersey City University on Saturday afternoon.

Match One: St. Joseph's (L.I.) 3, St. Joseph's (BK) 0

Top Performers:

  • Sophomore Declan Kerns finished with a team-best seven kills while hitting at a .700 clip

  • Junior Adam Bender and sophomore Jesse Renniesen added five kills apiece

  • Setters Dominic Ruggiero tossed 23 assists and collected a match-best seven digs and three aces

  • Jeremais Martinez of SJBK finished with a match-best nine kills with six digs

How it happened:

  • The Bears trailed 10-9, but six unanswered points in favor of the Golden Eagles created some distance, 16-9. SJLI only surrendered four additional points in the set taking the 25-13 win. Bender knocked down five kills with Kerns pitching in with three

  • The Golden Eagles held the Bears to single digits in the final two sets securing the sweep with 25-8, 25-6 wins.

Match Two: St. Joseph's 3, NJCU 0

Records:

St. Joseph's (L.I.), 12-6, 10-0 Skyline; Sarah Lawrence, 8-8, 3-5 Skyline

Top Performers:

  • Junior Luke MacPherson knocked down a team-best 12 kills while hitting at a .458 clip while collecting a team-high nine digs

  • Senior Logan Meyer totaled nine kills and picked up five digs

  • Setter Will Kropp dished 36 assists

  • Marcus Pardaise led all players with 18 kills and finished with eight digs

How it happened:

  • The Golden Eagles broke a 9-9 stalemate with an 11-1 run featuring three kills from Meyer to double up on the Gothic Knights, 20-10. SJLI went on to take a 1-0 match lead with a 25-16 win

  • NJCU kept it close in the second set with SJLI leading but just one, 19-18, late in the frame, but the Golden Eagles earned six of the final nine points for the 25-21 win. MacPherson finished with seven kills

  • Again, set three was tight with SJLI slightly ahead 20-18, but the visitors closed out the match on a 5-0 to complete the sweep with a 25-18 win

St. Joseph's resumes Skyline Conference action when they host Yeshiva University on Senior Night in the Danzi Center on Tuesday, March 25th at 7:00 PM.
