The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's volleyball team dropped a pair of non-conference matches on the road on Saturday afternoon. The Golden Eagles fell to #2 Southern Virginia University 3-0 before suffering a 3-1 loss to #3 Springfield.

How it happened:

The Knights took a quick match lead with a 25-16 win in set one. Esposito recorded three kills on four attempts, with Violi and Anderson adding two kills apiece

St. Joseph's trailed by just one, 15-14, in set two, but Southern Virginia knocked down six unanswered points before claiming a 25-19 win

The Knights went on to complete the sweep with a 25-21 win in the third set. Logan Meyer finished with four kills, and Violi recorded three

How it happened:

Springfield hit .667 as a team in the opening frame, taking a 1-0 match lead with a 25-13 win. The Pride extended its lead with a 25-18 win in set two

Set three went point for point throughout, with neither side gaining an advantage larger than three. Knotted at 24, a block from Hank Foglia and Anderson put the Golden Eagles in a set-point position where a Springfield attack error gave SJLI a 26-24 win

The fourth frame played out much like the third, with neither side able to break away with 11 tied scores and four lead changes. A kill from Violi moved the Golden Eagles to within one, 23-22, but Springfield went on to win 25-23
