How it happened:

  • The game opened with a back-and-forth battle as neither team gained a lead larger than three points through the first nine minutes of play with the game tied at 17 with 11:19 to go in the first half
  • St. Joseph's broke the tie with an 8-0 scoring run fueled by back-to-back threes from Maxwell and Sommervil; Sommervil capped the scoring run with a fastbreak layup to give the Golden Eagles a 25-17 advantage
  • The Privateers responded going on a 7-0 scoring burst themselves to bring the game within one (25-24), before Todd ended the scoring drought with a layup off the pass from Rodriguez
  • The first half came to a close as both teams traded buckets down the stretch as SJLI pulled ahead late taking a five point lead into half (34-29)
  • As Williams hit a three to start the second half scoring for Maritime, Esposito and Rodriguez answered with baskets of their own to bring the lead back up to six (42-36); Maritime would go on a 12-0 scoring burst to claim a 48-42 lead with 13:47 left in the game
  • St. Joseph's offense would explode with an 18-0 scoring run with Rodriguez scoring 13 straight points as the Golden Eagles claimed a 60-48 lead just over the midway point of the second half
  • Maritime cut the lead to just five (60-55) with just over seven minutes remaining but again SJLI answered with a 10-1 scoring run, as Esposito posted six of the team's 10 points in that time as St. Joseph's held a 70-56 lead with 4:16 left in the game
