The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's lacrosse team dropped their season opener 21-6 to Drew on Wednesday afternoon.
Top performers:
- Junior Kaitlyn Ippolito led the Golden Eagles with three goals, three ground balls, three draw controls, and one caused turnover.
- Junior Sabrina Doyle secured one goal and two assists for a total of three points and had two draw controls.
- Sophomore Taylor Metzler recorded her first career goal and assist with the Golden Eagles.
- Senior Maggie Harding finished with 10 saves.
- Grace Patane led Drew with four goals.
- Four different Rangers scored three goals and one assist for a total of four points, respectively
How it happened:
- The Rangers took command of the game early, scoring the first two goals of the game.
- St. Joseph's would then take the lead in the first quarter with goals from Ippolito, Doyle, and Gianna Darienzo.
- Four more goals from Drew would end the quarter in their favor 6-3.
- The Rangers would take a six point scoring run throughout the second quarter.
- Ippolito added the first goal for SJLI in the second with a minute left, but Drew answered back scoring one more to end the half 13-4.
- St. Joseph's opened the third with two goals from Metzler and Ippolito, recording a hat trick.
- The Rangers would build their lead to as much as four goals (17-6) throughout the third quarter.
- Drew scored the only four goals in the fourth quarter to secure the victory over SJLI.
