Women's Lacrosse Drops Season Opener to Drew

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's lacrosse team dropped their season opener 21-6 to Drew on Wednesday afternoon. 

Top performers:

  • Junior Kaitlyn Ippolito led the Golden Eagles with three goals, three ground balls, three draw controls, and one caused turnover.
  • Junior Sabrina Doyle secured one goal and two assists for a total of three points and had two draw controls.
  • Sophomore Taylor Metzler recorded her first career goal and assist with the Golden Eagles.
  • Senior Maggie Harding finished with 10 saves.
  • Grace Patane led Drew with four goals.
  • Four different Rangers scored three goals and one assist for a total of four points, respectively

How it happened:

  • The Rangers took command of the game early, scoring the first two goals of the game. 
  • St. Joseph's would then take the lead in the first quarter with goals from Ippolito, Doyle, and Gianna Darienzo.
  • Four more goals from Drew would end the quarter in their favor 6-3.
  • The Rangers would take a six point scoring run throughout the second quarter.
  • Ippolito added the first goal for SJLI in the second with a minute left, but Drew answered back scoring one more to end the half 13-4.
  • St. Joseph's opened the third with two goals from Metzler and Ippolito, recording a hat trick.
  • Ramapo would build their lead to as much as four goals (17-6) throughout the third quarter.
  • Drew scored the only four goals in the fourth quarter to secure the victory over SJLI.

Notes:

  • St. Joseph's collected five ground balls compared to Drew who collected none
  • Ramapo had 17 draw controls, while SJLI had 11
  • The Golden Eagles caused five turnovers, with the Roadrunner causing 16
