Men's Volleyball Drops a Pair on the Road

The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's volleyball team drops both matches on the road, falling to MIT 3-0 and SUNY New Paltz 3-0 at the Hawk Center.

Top Performers:

  • Shaun Mischler led the Golden Eagles with 10 kills and three digs. 
  • Logan Meyer contributed six kills, six digs, and two total blocks.
  • Declan Kerns recorded three kills, one assist, eight digs, and one block assist.
  • Ben Donahue added two kills, two block assists, one solo block, and one dig.
  • Chris Sarnicola posted one kill and five digs.
  • Dominic Ruggierio secured 23 assists, four digs, and one kill.

How it happened:

  • Set 1 (MIT 25-21): MIT took a lead in the first set until St. Joseph's caught up to tie at 15 points. Despite the close set, the Beavers broke through.
  • Set 2 (MIT 25-18): MIT opened up the lead with a 6-2 scoring burst. After both teaming going back-and-forth throughout the set, the Beavers led with a strong offensive and defensive performance.
  • Set 3 (MIT 25-20): Early errors from MIT helped the Golden Eagles receive early points. Mischler and Chase Meyer helped offensively to bring the score to 21-20, but the Beavers closed the game with two kills.

Top Performers:

  • Declan Kerns led the Golden Eagles with 10 kills while hitting .304, and added five digs.
  • Shaun Mischler posted nine kills on a .348 hitting percentage and four digs.
  • Chris Sarnicola contributed nine digs.
  • Connor Ruais recorded eight digs, to go along with one assist.
  • Dominic Ruggiero dished out 22 assists to direct the offense effectively and had nine digs.

How it happened:

  • Set 1 (New Paltz 25-8): New Paltz jumped out to an early 21-5 lead, leaving little room for St. Joseph's to answer. Cole Violi contributed two kills, but it wasn't enough to keep the Hawks from securing the first set victory.
  • Set 2 (New Paltz 25-23): The Golden Eagles opened the second set 3-0, until New Paltz answered back to tie the score 3-3. The score remained close throughout the set, with multiple ties, but two kills from the Hawks took the lead 25-23 at the end of the second set.
  • Set 3 (New Paltz 25-21): New Paltz took another scoring run of 4-1, but kills from Mischler and Donahue helped tie the set 5-5. Both teams continued to answer each other until the Hawks took over offensively and defensively to secure the win 25-21.
