Men's Lacrosse Earns First Season Victory

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) men's lacrosse team earns their first win of the season against SUNY Cobleskill, 8-3, at home on Saturday afternoon..

Top performers:

  • Junior Caden Stubba led the Golden Eagles with four goals, one assist, and five ground balls.
  • Junior Anthony Herrera recorded three goals and five ground balls.
  • Junior Najee Henderson tallied one goal, five ground balls, and one caused turnover.
  • Junior Matt Cioffi finished with three assist and three ground balls.
  • Luke Doucet and Patrick Haggerty both collected one assist each.
  • Freshman defenseman William Broger totaled six ground balls and three caused turnovers.
  • Freshman goalkeeper John Marino recorded 13 saves, only allowing three goals, and collected six ground balls..

How it happened:

  • Cobleskill scored the first goal of the game before Herrera netted SJLI's goal off the pass from Cioffi to end the quarter 1-1.
  • St. Joseph's went to score the only two goals made in the second quarter, one from Stubba from Haggerty and one from Henderson.
  • The SJLI defense held Cobleskill from scoring and Marino denied five shots on goal from the Tigers to end the half 3-1.
  • The Golden Eagles led offensively in the third quarter, recording three goals compared to the Tigers's two.
  • St. Joseph's would hold SUNY Cobleskill scoreless in the fourth quarter, finding the back of the net two times to take the 8-3 victory.

Notes:

  • Senior Josh Bell went 4-for-9 in faceoffs and Sophomore Sean Egan went 3-for-6 in faceoffs.
  • The Golden Eagles held a 57-45 ground ball advantage.
  • Cobleskill caused 15 turnovers to SJLI's 14.
