Men's Volleyball Captures Seventh Win in a Row

Results:

The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's volleyball team swept Purchase, 3-0 (25-9, 25-11, 25-9), during Skyline Conference action on Saturday morning.

Key Players:

  • AJ Esposito led the Golden Eagles with nine kills, one assist, and three total block assists
  • Dominic Ruggiero totaled 29 assists, four service aces, five digs, and one block solo
  • Shaun Mischler added nine kills and 12 digs
  • Declan Kerns finished with eights kills, three blocks and 11 digs
  • Connor Ruais added 11 digs and two assists 

How it happened:

  • St. Joseph's dominated the opening set with efficient offense (.333 attack percentage) and strong serving, including three aces from Ruggiero, while limiting Purchase to negative hitting; the Golden Eagles built a large lead early and closed it out 25-9
  • The momentum carried into the second set as SJLI maintained high hitting efficiency (.345) and solid blocking (three team blocks), using balanced attacks from Kerns and others to secure a 25-11 win despite Purchase's brief push
  • Purchase kept the third set close early, but the Golden Eagles pulled away decisively with powerful kills from Kerns and Mischler, plus defensive pressure that forced errors, finishing on a strong run to earn the 25-9 victory and complete the sweep

Notes:

  • St. Joseph's hit .358 as a team while totaling 35 kills in the match
  • The Golden Eagles recorded seven team blocks defensively, four service aces, and 44 digs while committing zero reception errors
  • SJLI never trailed significantly in any set and improved to 7-0 in Skyline Conference play with dominant performances across all three frames
