Men's Volleyball Cruises to Eighth Win in a Row

Results:

The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's volleyball team stayed undefeated in Skyline Conference play with a straight-set sweep of UMSV by scores of 25-22, 25-10, 25-17 on Tuesday evening.

Key Players:

  • AJ Esposito led the attack with 13 kills on an outstanding .611 hitting percentage and added three blocks
  • Declan Kerns contributed 10 kills, one service ace, and eight digs
  • Chris Sarnicola recorded five kills and matched a team-high eight digs while adding one service ace
  • Dominic Ruggiero orchestrated the offense with 38 assists and one block
  • Shaun Mischler added fou kills and one service ace

How it happened:

  • St. Joseph's got off to a strong start in the first set, using balanced hitting and timely blocks to build an early lead. Despite a late push from UMSV, the Golden Eagles closed out the set 25-22.
  • The second set was all SJLI. The Golden Eagles jumped out to a commanding advantage behind efficient attacking and strong serving, cruising to a dominant 25-10 victory.
  • In the third set, St. Joseph's maintained control from the opening points and never looked back. Consistent offense and solid defense allowed them to pull away and finish the match with a 25-17 win, completing the sweep.

Notes:

  • St. Joseph's hit an impressive .341 as a team with 42 kills while holding UMSV to just .095 hitting.
  • The Golden Eagles recorded seven team blocks
  • SJLI improved to 8-0 in Skyline Conference play and never trailed significantly after the early stages of the first set.
