Women's Lacrosse Wins First Conference Game; Doyle Earns 100th Point

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's lacrosse earns first victory of the season against conference team Purchase on Saturday afternoon.

Top performers:

  • Junior Sabrina Doyle led the Golden Eagles with seven goals, three ground balls, four caused turnovers, and three draw controls, as well as recording her 100 point.
  • Junior Kaitlyn Ippolito recorded four goals, three assists, one caused turnover, and one draw control.
  • Sophomore Jocelyn Forseth collected three goals and two ground balls.
  • Sophomore Taylor Metzler totaled two goals, three assists, and one caused turnover.
  • Senior Julia Stolba scored one goal and made five assists, two caused turnovers, and nine draw controls.
  • Five different Golden Eagles scored one goal each.

How it happened:

  • St. Joseph's opened the first quarter with four goals, two from Doyle, one from Ippolito, and one from Kayla Sodano.
  • Purchase stopped SJLI's scoring run with a goal, but Doyle came back and scored once more.
  • Gianna DArienzo and Emily Grace Passaro scored for the Golden Eagles to end the first quarter 7-1.
  • Metzler and Ippolito opened the second quarter with back-to-back goals
  • Stolba, Forseth, and Emily Farrington went on a back-to-back run to increase SJLI's lead 12-1.
  • Doyle and Ippolito continued their offensive run by adding two goals to the score.
  • The Panthers scored once more to end the half 15-2.
  • Both teams went back-and-forth throughout the third quarter, both scoring three goals each,
  • St. Joseph's went on to score four more goals and held Purchase to no goals, ending the game 22-5.

Notes:

  • St. Joseph's collected 15 ground balls, while Purchase collected 19.
  • The Golden Eagles had 16 draw controls, while the Panthers had 13.
  • SJLI caused 16 turnovers, with PC caused five.
