The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) men's lacrosse falls in the conference opener against USMMA, 20-2, at home on Saturday evening.
Top performers:
- Junior Matt Cioffi led the Golden Eagles with one goal, one ground ball, and one caused turnover.
- Freshman Ryan Schildt totaled one goal and one goal.
- Junior Caden Stubba collected two assists, two ground balls, and two caused turnovers.
- Freshman John Marino tallied 20 saves and six ground balls.
How it happened:
- Merchant Marine opened the first quarter by scoring the first six goals of the game, with the first three being back-to-back.
- Schildt netted the first goal at St. Joseph's at 17 seconds, which was quickly answered back to end the quarter 7-1.
- The Mariners held the Golden Eagles from scoring any goals in the second quarter, scoring four goals themselves and taking the 11-1 lead into halftime.
- USMMA added two more goals to the score in the beginning of the third quarter, until Cioffi scored SJLI's second goal off a pass from Stubba.
- Merchant Marine answered shortly after once again and scored three goals after that, making the score 17-2 at the end of the third.
- The Mariners held SJLI scoreless for the entire fourth quarter and netted three goals to take the 20-2 conference victory.

- The Mariners held a 48-21 ground ball advantage.
- USMMA won 19 face offs compared to SJLI's five.
- Mercant Marine recorded 14 caused turnovers to St. Joseph's four.
