(Blake Arena) Records: St. Joseph's (L.I.), 15-9 (12-0 Skyline); Springfield College, 18-3 Results: The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's volleyball team fell in straight sets to Springfield College by scores of 22-25, 16-25, 16-25 on Saturday afternoon. Key Players: Chris Sarnicola led the Golden Eagles with five kills, adding five digs AJ Esposito contributed four kills and a team-high three blocks Dominic Ruggiero orchestrated the offense with 17 assists to go along with one block and five digs Declan Kerns and Connor Ruais each recorded 7 digs defensively Logan Meyer and Shaun Michler posted three kills each, with Michler recording four digs How it happened: Set 1 (22-25): St. Joseph's (L.I.) got off to a strong start and held an 11-9 lead midway through the set. However, Springfield responded with powerful attacking from AJ Seveland and Joey Preische, combined with effective serving, to pull ahead late and take the set 25-22. Set 2 (16-25): Springfield carried the momentum into the second set, jumping out to an early advantage. The Pride's balanced attack and consistent offense overwhelmed the Golden Eagles, who struggled to find rhythm. Springfield cruised to a 25-16 victory. Set 3 (16-25): St. Joseph's fought hard early in the third set but could not slow down Springfield's high-powered offense. The Pride continued to dominate at the net and in transition, pulling away comfortably for a 25-16 win and completing the sweep. Notes: Springfield hit an impressive .411 as a team with 58 kills, while St. Joseph's (L.I.) hit .171 with 18 kills. The Golden Eagles recorded five team blocks, led by Esposito's three blocks. Set scores were 25-23, 25-21, 21-25, 25-20 on Saturday afternoon. Key Players: Shaun Mischler led the attack with 13 kills and added five blocks, one service ace and four digs Chris Sarnicola contributed with nine kills, a team-high five blocks, 16 digs, and one ace Logan Meyer posted eight kills, nine digs, one block and one service ace Dominic Ruggiero orchestrated the offense with 37 assists, to go along with three blocks and 11 digs Connor Ruais finished with 14 digs and three assists How it happened: St. Joseph's (L.I.) got off to a strong start in the first set, battling through a close set and using timely kills and blocks to edge out a 25-23 win. The second set followed a similar script. The Golden Eagles jumped out to a lead behind efficient attacking and solid defense, cruising to a 25-21 victory. In the third set, Baruch came out aggressive and jumped ahead early. St. Joseph's (L.I.) could not regain momentum and dropped the set 21-25. In the fourth set, the Golden Eagles bounced back strong. Consistent offense, fewer errors, and a big blocking presence allowed them to pull away and close out the match with a 25-20 win. Notes: The Golden Eagles hit .223 as a team with 44 kills while committing only 15 errors. They also recorded 13 total blocks compared to Baruch's eight. Despite Baruch recording 64 kills, SJLI's efficiency and defensive effort proved to be the difference in the match.
