Softball Suffers First Conference Loss

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) softball team got swept by Manhattanville in the Skyline Conference opener on Saturday morning.

Game One: Manhattanville 14, SJLI 5

Key Players:

  • Junior Jacqueline Flannery led the Golden Eagles with two runs scored, two hits, and one RBI.
  • Senior Antonia Busa recorded one run scored, two hits, and one RBI.
  • Senior Brooke Bove tallied one run scored and one hit.
  • Senior pitcher Katelyn Lysogorski scored on run and recorded thee strikeouts on the mound.

How it happened:

  • Manhattanville opened the game in the top of the first with eight runs scored.
  • St. Joseph's. responded in the bottom of the first with two runs scored by Flannery and Busa.
  • Bove scored off a single bunt from Flannery and Flannery and Lysogorski scored off a double from Kristin Tellier in the second inning to close the Valiants lead 8-5.
  • Manhattanville held the Golden Eagles from making any more runs throughout the game and came back to score four runs in the third inning and two runs in the seventh inning to secure to 14-5 win.

Game two: Manhattanville 11, SJLI 0

Key Players:

  • Flannery led the Golden Eagles with two hits and one stolen base.
  • Tellier recorded one hit.
  • Junior Emma Rondinella and senior Caitlyn Herzing both recorded two strikeouts each. 

How it happened:

  • Manhattanville found themselves on the scoreboard early with three runs scored in the first inning.
  • The Valiants scored one run in the second inning to advance their lead 5-0.
  • Manhattanville prevented SJLI from making any runs and went on a six run scoring streak in the top of the fourth to secure their second win of the day 11-0.
