Women's Lacrosse Drops Winning Streak to USMMA; Ippolito Records Her 100th Point

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) women's lacrosse team drops a conference game to the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Wednesday evening. 
 

Top performers:

  • Sophomore Taylor Metzler led the Golden Eagles with two goals, one ground ball, and one caused turnover.
  • Junior Sabrina Doyle contributed two goals and one draw control.
  • Senior Gianna DArienzo scored one goal for the Golden Eagles.
  • Junior Kaitlyn Ippolito recorded one assist, which is her 100th career point, four ground balls, two caused turnovers, and two draw controls.
  • Senior Julia Stolba tallied one assist, seven draw controls, and one caused turnover.
 

How it happened:

  • Merchant Marine Academy took control of the game early, as they scored three opening goals. 
  • SJLI managed to get a goal back by Doyle but the USMMA took the lead 8-1 at the end of the first quarter.
  • USMMA would continue the scoring streak, netting nine goals before Doyle would put SJLI's second goal on the board. 
  • DArienzo and Metzler would also score for the Golden Eagles, but the Mariners took control once more, ending the half 12-4.
  • The third period was fairly low scoring for both teams, with USMMA scoring two goals and Metzler grabbing her second of the match, leaving the third quarter 14-5. 
  • Heading into the final quarter, Merchant Marine would close out the game keeping SJLI scoreless while scoring three of their own finishing the conference matchup 17-5. 
 

Notes:

  • Senior Maggie Harding finished with 14 saves and one ground ball 
  • St. Joseph's collected 15 ground balls to Merchant's 30
  • SJLI was successful on 5-of-17 shots.

The Golden Eagles will travel to Mt. St. Mary's College for a Skyline Conference matchup on Saturday, April 11, at 3:30PM.
