Softball Sweeps Purchase

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) softball sweeps Purchase College, earning their first conference victories of the season, on Sunday morning.

Game One: SJLI 3, Purchase 2

Key Players:

How it happened:

  • St. Joseph's found themselves on the scoreboard early, with Flannery and Busa both scoring off Brown's single up the middle.
  • The Golden Eagles held the lead for majority of the game until Purchase answered back by scoring two runs in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game 2-2.
  • Olson scored on an error by the Panthers in the top of the eight inning to secure the 3-2 victory for SJLI.

Game two: SJLI 3, Purchase 1

Key Players:

  • Junior Kristin Tellier led the Golden Eagles with one run scored, two hits, and two RBIs.
  • Junior Amber Danz and Flannery both scored one run each.
  • Busa totaled two hits and one RBI.
  • Senior Caitlyn Herzing recorded five strikeouts on the mound. 

How it happened:

  • Both teams stayed quiet throughout the game and weren't able to score a run.
  • In the top of the seventh inning, Tellier tripled to right field which Flannery and Danz scored off of. Right after Tellier scored herself off a sacrifice fly from Busa to take the Golden Eagles to a 3-0 lead.
  • Purchase scored one run in the bottom of the seventh, but that wasn't enough and St. Joseph's took the 3-1 victory in game two.

The Golden Eagles head to Rutgers-Newark on Wednesday, Apr. 15 for a non-conference doubleheader starting at 4:00 PM.
