Men's Lacrosse Edged By Mount Saint Mary

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) men's lacrosse edged by Mount Saint Mary in the fourth quarter on Saturday afternoon.

Top performers:

  • Junior Caden Stubba led the Golden Eagles with three goals and one ground ball.
  • Junior Najee Henderson collected one goal, one assist, and one ground ball
  • Freshman Ryan Schildt totaled one goal, one assist, and five ground balls.
  • Sophomore defender Zack Watson led defensively with three caused turnovers and two ground balls.
  • Freshman goalkeeper John Marino tallied eight saves and six ground balls.

How it happened:

  • Mount Saint Mary's opened the game late in the first quarter and scored in the opening minute of the second quarter to put themselves in the lead 2-0.
  • St. Joseph's netted two goals within two minutes of each other to tie the game, but the Knights scored quickly after to bounce back.
  • At 3:21, Stubba scored to tie the game 3-3 going into halftime.
  • Neither teams were able to find the back of the net in the third quarter, as score remains a tie game.
  • Schildt and Stubba both scored in the beginning half of the fourth quarter as SJLI takes the first lead of the game 5-3.
  • MSMC scored three goals, two of them which were in the final seconds of the game, to take the lead back and win the 6-5 conference matchup.

Notes:

  • The Golden Eagles held a 34-30 ground ball advantage.
  • MSMC won 11 face offs compared to SJLI's four.
  • Mount Saint Mary recorded 12 caused turnovers to St. Joseph's 10.
