The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) men's lacrosse collected their first conference victory of the season, 10-6, as they faced Purchase on the road on Wednesday night.
Top performers:
- Junior Caden Stubba led the Golden Eagles with four goals.
- Freshman Ryan Schildt totaled three goals, one assist, three ground balls, and one caused turnover.
- Junior Najee Henderson collected two goals and two ground balls.
- Junior Matt Cioffi recorded one goal, three assists, and two ground balls.
- Senior Nick Morales accumulated one assist, two ground balls, and one caused turnover.
- Sophomore Zack Watson tallied 12 saves and three ground balls in goal.
How it happened:
- St. Joseph's opened the first quarter with two goals scored by Stubba, which Purchase answered with two goals of their own to tie the game 2-2.
- The Panthers scored late in the second quarter to take the lead, but the Golden Eagles netted four goals, highlighted by Cioffi scoring with one second left, to take the lead 6-3 going into halftime.
- Purchase scored two goals to catch up to SJLI throughout the third quarter, but with two minutes left Schildt found the back of the net to extend the lead 7-5.
- Neither teams were able to find the back of the net in the third quarter, as score remains a tie game.
- Schildt scored once again in the beginning of the fourth quarter and the Panthers netted their only goal of the quarter three minutes after.
- Schildt answered right back and Stubba scored to take the 10-6 conference victory.
Notes:
- The Golden Eagles held a 35-24 ground ball advantage.
- SJLI won 14 face offs compared to the Panther's five.
- Purchase recorded 11 caused turnovers to St. Joseph's 10.
