Baseball Remains Unbeaten in Skyline Play with a Pair of Wins Against Yeshiva, 17-0, 22-2

When and Where:

April 12, 2024 - Patchogue, NY

St. Joseph's (L.I.), 17-7, 8-0 Skyline; Yeshiva University, 0-10, 0-14

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) baseball team extended their win streak to 14 and remain unbeaten in Skyline Conference play with a pair of wins against Yeshiva University at Gregg Alfano Field on Friday afternoon. The Golden Eagles cruised to a 17-0 win in game one before 

Game one: SJLI 17; Yeshiva 0 (7 inn.)

Key Players:

  • Junior Jordan Ramlogan went 3-for-3 with a double, a triple, three RBIs and three runs scored

  • Sophomore Joe Hackal was also 3-for-3 all doubles knocking in three runs while scoring three

  • Reliever Dante Morabito picked up his second win of the season allowing just one run on two hits with four strikeouts in 3.2 innings of relief

  • Pitchers Luke Gacovino, Ryan Barlow, and Josh Dannenburg all combined for the shutout allowing just three hits with seven strikeouts

How it happened:

  • A six-run bottom of the second got the scoring going for St. Joseph's. Derek Masino, Hackal, and Ramlogan all had RBI extra-base hits 

  • The Golden Eagles added five runs in the bottom of the third highlighted by home runs from Mike DiFillipo and Dom Crema

  • St. Joseph's batted around in the bottom of the fourth adding another five runs on six hits to take a 16-0 lead

  • A sac fly from Ramlogan in the bottom of the sixth capped the scoring at 17-0

Game two: SJLI 22; Yeshiva 2 (6 inn.)

Key Players:

  • Freshman Scott Northrop went 4-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs and three runs scored 

  • Junior James Maggio was 2-for-3 with a home run, five RBIs, and two runs

  • Freshman Scott Northrop finished 4-for-5 knocking in three runs while scoring three

How it happened:

  • The Golden Eagles went through the lineup in the first putting up five runs on four hits

  • An RBI single through the right side in the second from John Lynch brought in Joe Sanguedolce who sent a base hit up the middle earlier in the inning, 6-0

  • James Maggio belted a two-run blast over the left field fence in the bottom of the third extending the lead to 8-0

  • After the Golden Eagles added three runs in the bottom of the fourth, the Maccabees got on the board with two runs in the top of the fifth. After the first run came in on a wild throw trying to cut down a runner at second, Eli Zirdok singled to right to bring home Avi Cohen, 11-2

  • Sixteen Golden Eagles stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the fifth turning seven hits into 11 runs and moving the score to 22-2

Next up, the Golden Eagles resume Skyline Conference action when they travel to face St. Joseph's University, Brooklyn on Sunday, April 14th at 11:00 am.
