Softball Drops Two to Manhattanville

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) softball team drops two Skyline Conference contests to Manhattanville on Friday evening.

Game One:

Key Players:

  • Rachel Coleman led the Valiants, going 2-3 at the plate, with two runs scored and three RBIs
  • Manhattanville's Sydni Brooks totaled two hits on two appearances at the plate to go along with two runs scored and two RBIs
  • Sarah Harker finished with two hits, two runs scored, and one RBI
  • Charli Shinstine pitched all five innings for the Valiants, allowing no hits

How it happened:

  • Manhattanville jumped out to an early lead, scoring six runs on three hits in the first inning
  • The Valiants added to their lead in the second inning, tallying five hits and four runs scored 
  • The top of the fifth inning saw the bulk of runs scored for the Valints as they rallied eight runs scored on five hits to secure game one

Game two:

Key Players:

  • Sophomore Antonia Busa led the Golden Eagles with 2 hits, one run scored, and one RBI
  • Freshman Alex LaBarba finished 2-2 and one RBI
  • Harker provided the Valints with two hits, three runs scored, and four RBIs
  • Amaya Esparza collected two hits, two runs scored, and two RBIs

How it happened:

  • The Valiants accumulated 10 runs in the opening inning on just three hits 
  • SJLI responded in the bottom half of the inning with Busa getting on base with a single to short, allowing LaBarba to drive home Busa to score on a single up the middle
  • In the fourth inning, Manhattanville added eight more runs to their score on just four hits, as St. Joseph's committed three errors in the inning
  • Busa again got the Golden Eagles on the scoreboard with a single to center field, driving in Jackie Flannery to score 
Next, the Golden Eagles travel to Purchase for a Skyline Conference matchup on Sunday, April 14, at 11:00 AM.
