The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) baseball team dropped a pair of non-conference games to Stevens Institute of Technology at Gregg Alfano Field on Tuesday afternoon. The Golden Eagles' comeback in game one fell just short with the Ducks holding on to a 14-13 win before the visitors came away with a 5-1 victory in game two.

How it happened:

The Golden Eagles scored first when Jordan Ramlogan came around to score on a base hit to right by Joya in the bottom of the opening frame
-
The Ducks batted around for five hits including a grand slam from Liam DeRubertis in the top of the third to take an 8-1 lead
-
A couple of unearned runs in the bottom of the third and an RBI single from DiFilippo in the fourth cut the deficit in half for the Golden Eagles, 8-4

A four-run top of the fifth highlighted by a solo home run by Garret Wolf put Stevens ahead 12-4
-
SJLI got a run back in the home half of the fifth when Joe Sanguedolce singled in Joe Thatcher who doubled earlier in the inning
-
The Ducks tacked on a run in both the sixth and seventh innings extending their lead to 14-5

SJLI sent all nine Golden Eagles to the plate in the eighth stringing together five hits along with a bases-loaded walk for five runs and closing the gap to four, 14-10

Three straight singles with one out in the bottom of the ninth scoring the first run of the inning. A walk to Ramlogan loaded the bases before Crema was hit by a pitch forcing another run across, 14-12. A ground out to second allowed DeFilippo to score inching the Golden Eagles to within one, 14-13. Thatcher drilled a shot off Steven's pitcher Zach Rechtshaid's leg to first baseman Christian Kreiser who flipped it back to Rechtshaid just in time for the final out.
Game two: SJLI 1; Stevens 5 (8 inn.)

Back-to-back singles started the game for the Ducks and a two-out walk a couple of batters later loaded the bases where a wild pitch allowed a run to scoreÂ

The Golden Eagles quickly evened the score in the bottom half of the first when Ramlogan beat out an infield single and after stealing second, he stole third and came home when the throw went into left field
-
The game went scoreless for the next six innings forcing extras where the Ducks put up four runs in the top of the eighth. After a couple of walks, Zachery Boykin tripled to right knocking in two runs, and was followed by an RBI double from Frank Tonino. A couple of batters later Tonino scored on a wild pitch for a 5-1 lead.

Sanguedolce singled with two outs in the bottom of the eighth but was left stranded when Derek Masino popped out to second for the final out of the game
Next up, the Golden Eagles resume Skyline Conference play when they host the University of Mt. St. Vincent on Saturday, May 4th at 11:00 am.
