Results:

The top-seeded St. Joseph's University (L.I.) baseball team fall into the loser's bracket and faces elimination with a 6-1 loss to #4 Farmingdale State College in the opening game of Friday's Skyline Conference Championship Tournament.

Key Players:

• Sophomore Joe Hackal finished 3-for-4 with a walk and a stolen base

• Junior Anselmo Joya went 1-for-2 knocking in SJLI's only run of the game

• Freshman Scott Northrop was 1-for-1 with a walk

How it happened:

• After stranding runners in each of the first two innings, the Rams finally broke through with three runs in the top of the third. Ritchie Heyder knocked in two runs with a double down the left field line before coming into to score on Tyler DiRocco's single through the right side

• The Golden Eagles got a run back in the bottom of the fourth with John Lynch doubled to right with one out and came in on single from Joya

• Farmingdale regained their three-run lead in the fifth when Peter Manger's pick off attempt rolled down the right field line allowed Heyder to score

• The Rams added to their lead with a run in the seventh when Daniel Deutsch snuck an RBI single down the right field line

• St. Joseph's loaded the bases in the bottom half of the seventh, but DiRocco was called on to face freshman Joe Thatcher and got him swinging to end the threat

• Farmingdale tacked on a run in the ninth for a 6-1 final

Notes:

• SJLI's Manger suffered his first loss since March 15th an moved to 6-3 on the season

• FSC's Roman Dorosh earned the win allowing one runs on eight hits with five strikeouts. DiRocco was credited with a save allowing just one hit in 1.1 innings of work

Next up, the Golden Eagles will face #6 Manhattanville in an elimination game at Gregg Alfano Field on Saturday, May 11th at 11:00 am (postponed from Friday).
