Softball Ends Regular Season With a Skyline Sweep

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) softball team ended their season with a pair of victories over Skyline Conference rival Yeshiva University on Monday evening.

Game One:

Key Players:

  • Senior Julia Ruocchio secured one hit, three RBIs, and one run scored
  • Freshman Amber Danz totaled one hits and three runs batted in
  • Freshman Gabriella Vacchio was 3-3 at the plate with one run scored and one RBI
  • Freshman Kayla Swanwick collected one hit, two RBIs, and one run scored
  • Sophomore Caitlyn Herzing pitched three innings, allowing one hit and no runs scored

How it happened:

  • SJLI started the game strong as the Golden Eagles accumulated five runs in the opening inning, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Ruocchio that saw Alex LaBarba and Mariah Salvatto score
  •  St. Joseph's again kept the pressure on in the second inning, where they totaled five runs on four hits, with Danz securing a two-RBI single to right field to take a 10-0 lead at the end of the inning
  • The Golden Eagles scored their final run of the game in the bottom of the fourth when Kate Kiernan singled to left-center, driving home Samantha Lugo to score 

Game two:

Key Players:

  • Senior Madison DiPalo was 4-4 at the plate, with four runs scored and two RBIs
  • Senior Kate Kiernan finished 3-4, to go along with two runs scored and three RBIs, and pitched all five innings, not allowing a hit
  • Sophomore Kimberly Ehmansecured two hits, one run scored, and three RBIs
  • Senior Samantha Dimezza tallied one hit, one run scored and two RBIs

How it happened:

  • DiPalo got St. Joseph's on the board early when the outfielder hit a deep shot to left center field to bring home Vacchio and secure an inside-the-park home run
  • The Golden Eagles would secure four more runs in the inning to take a 6-0 lead; SJLI would add to their lead again in the second inning, finishing with another six runs scored on five hits to pull ahead 12-0 
  • Cailyn Rodriguez would single to center field to bring home DiPalo to score in the bottom of the third inning, followed by a Dimezza single to right center with bases loaded to allow Kayla Swanwick to score
  • St. Joseph's finished with two runs scored in the bottom of the fourth inning to secure a 16-0 victory in game two and complete the sweep
