Cross Country Battles at NJIT Invitational

Result:

The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's and women's cross country teams turned in strong performances at the NJIT Invitational on Saturday morning. The men's team placed fourth overall, finishing behind only Division I Army West Point, regionally ranked TCNJ, and Division II Molloy, while the women's team earned an eighth-place finish in the 5k race.

Top Performers:

  • Men:
    • Ryan Steinberg ran a personal-best 8k time of 26:44.2 (5:22 pace) to place 10th overall, leading the Golden Eagles to a fourth-place team finish. His performance marked the fourth-fastest time in program history.
    • Evan Skoblicki finished 27th (27:38.2), followed by Jimmy Mintel in 30th (27:44.6).
    • Ren Seubert clocked 28:07.8 for 36th, and Brayden Clements rounded out the scoring five in 58th (29:30.2).
    • The team averaged 27:57 per runner (5:37 pace) across its top five finishers.
  • Women:
    • Elizabeth Kurka paced the Golden Eagles with a 10th-place finish in 20:52.9 (6:43 pace), a personal best by over a minute and the fastest 5k time by any Skyline runner this week.
    • Madison Mattera (46th, 24:22.7) and Giselle Estrada (49th, 24:38.4) provided key mid-pack results.
    • Evangeline Pierre-Louis (82nd, 28:23.6) and Petra Cline (85th, 28:27.0) completed the scoring lineup.
    • The women averaged 25:20 per runner (8:07 pace).

How it Happened:

  • Steinberg's career-best performance set the tone for St. Joseph's, helping the team finish as the top Division III program in a deep, multi-division field.
  • Consistent support from Skoblicki, Mintel, and Seubert kept the Golden Eagles within striking distance of Division II opponents.
  • On the women's side, Kurka's breakout run led the way, as the Golden Eagles edged St. Joseph's-Brooklyn (202–203) to claim eighth place overall.
  • Both teams demonstrated steady improvement and depth midway through the fall campaign.

Notes:

  • Steinberg has now been the team's top finisher in every meet this season.
  • His 26:44.2 ranks fourth all-time in program history for an 8k.
  • Kurka's 20:52.9 stands as her career-best 5k and best Skyline Conference women's time of the week.
