Men Place Second, Women Eighth at Skyline Championships

Result:

The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) men's and women's cross country teams turned in strong performances at the Skyline Conference Championship on Sunday. The men's team placed second overall, finishing behind only USMMA, while the women's team earned an eighth-place finish. 

Top Performers:

  • Men:
    • Ryan Steinberg led the Golden Eagles posting a time of 27:31.5 to finish seventh overall 
    • Evan Skoblicki finished ninth overall with a time of 27:48.2
    • Jimmy Mintel took 12th overall, collecting a time of 28:08.0
    • Anthony Flaccomino placed 17th overall (28:33.5) and Ren Seubert landed 19th overall (28:48.5)
    • Gavin Hughes recorded a time of 30:37.5 to take 31st overall
  • Women:
    • Elizabeth Kurka paced the Golden Eagles with a sixth-place finish (25:43.8)
    • Madison Mattera landed 25th, with a time of 29:20.3 
    • Giselle Estrada collected 36th place overall and recorded a time of  30:46.1
    • Tara Murphy ran a time of 31:43.0 to place 49th overall

How it Happened:

  • The Golden Eagles' men's team produced one of their strongest collective efforts of the season, placing second overall behind only the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.
  • Steinberg led the way, finishing seventh overall in 27:31.5, followed closely by Skoblicki in ninth at 27:48.2, giving St. Joseph's two top-10 finishers.
  • Mintel (12th, 28:08.0), Flaccomino (17th, 28:33.5), and Seubert (19th, 28:48.5) rounded out a tight top-five scoring pack — all inside the top 20 — securing the runner-up team finish.
  • Gavin Hughes added depth with a 31st-place showing in 30:37.5, reinforcing the team's depth in the standings.
  • On the women's side, Kurka turned in a standout performance, finishing sixth overall in 25:43.8 to lead the Golden Eagles to an eighth-place team finish.
  • Mattera followed in 25th (29:20.3), with Estrada (36th, 30:46.1) and Murphy (49th, 31:43.0) rounding out the team's scoring effort in a deep and competitive women's field.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, November 8, when they travel to Milton, NY for the ECAC Championships, at 10:30 AM.
