The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) baseball team split a pair of non-conference contests with Ithaca College on Friday afternoon. The Golden Eagles picked up a 5-2 win in game one before falling in game two 12-3.
Game one: SJLI 5; Ithaca 2

Joe Thatcher was 3-for-3 with a double and a home run. The sophomore scored two runs while knocking in two

How it happened:

Three-straight one-out singles loaded the bases for Maggio in the bottom of the fourth, whose double to right brought home Thatcher and Joya for a 2-0 Golden Eagle lead

The Bombers answered right back with a pair of runs on three hits in the top half of the fifth, 2-2

A one-out double to left by Dom Crema in the bottom of the fifth set up an RBI single to right by Lynch. One batter later, Thatcher belted a two-run home run to right center, putting the home team back on top, 5-2

After a quiet sixth, Ithaca loaded the bases with two out in the top of the seventh, but SJLI reliever CJ Rivera got Logan Scully swinging to end the threat and pick up the save

Ithaca batted around to put up five runs in the opening frame, highlighted by a lead off home run to right by Collin Feeney

A walk and a single to center to start the top of the second chased SJLI starter Tyler Cooney from the game, and the Bombers went on to tack on three more runs to jump ahead 8-0

St. Joseph's got three runs back in the bottom of the third. A bases loaded base hit through the right side from Lynch knocked in Mike DiFilippo and Joe Hackal before Maggio drew an RBI walk, 8-3

Ithaca's Ethan McDonough knocked in a run with a triple in the right center gap and then came in to score on an RBI single by Matt Curtis for a 10-3 lead

The Bombers added a pair of runs in the top of the ninth, moving the score to its final 12-3
Next up, the Golden Eagles return to Gregg Alfano Field and host SUNY Cobleskill for a doubleheader on Saturday, March 1st. Game time is set for 12:00 pm.
