Results:

The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) baseball team lost to Colby-Sawyer, 7-4, on Thursday morning in a non-conference matchup.

Key Players:

  • Junior Joe Hackal led the Golden Eagles, going 2-4 at the plate with one double, to go along with two RBIs, one run scored, and two stolen bases
  • Senior John Lynch recorded three hits, with one double and one run scored
  • Senior Jordan Ramlogan and junior Marc Gullo each had one hit and one run scored, with Ramlogan securing a home run

How it happened:

  • After both teams were held scoreless in the first inning, Colby-Sawyer's Sean Roeger led off the second inning with a single to left field, setting up Devin Montalvo for an RBI single to secure a 1-0 lead early
  • The Chargers added to their lead in the top of the third inning; with runners on first and third, Cooper O'Brien hit a home run to bring home three scores to go ahead by four
  • Hackal hit a lead-off single to center field for SJLI in the bottom half of the inning, stealing second and third base, allowing Gullo to hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring home Hackal to score
  • Colby-Sawyer again secured another run scored when a pitch hit the lead-off batter before an RBI double to left center increased their lead again to four (5-1)
  • Both teams would be held off the scoreboard until the top of the eighth inning when the Chargers secured two runs on just two hits, highlighted by an RBI double from Roeger as Colby-Sawyer held on to a six-run advantage (7-1)
  • Ramlogan led off the bottom half of the eighth inning for St. Joseph's, hitting a home run over the center field wall as the inning came to a close three batters later with the score 7-2
  • As the Golden Eagles held the Chargers off the scoreboard in the final inning, SJLI looked to mount a comeback as Hackal doubled, allowing two runners to score to make it a three-run game, but it was not enough as Colby-Sawyer walked away with the victory

Notes:

  • Colby-Sawyer's Mike Hogan earned the win, pitching eight innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and striking out six
  • SJLI's starter Justin Jaskolski was tagged with the loss, allowing five runs on four hits in four innings
