The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) baseball team picked up a pair of Skyline Conference wins against the University of Mt. St. Vincent on Tuesday afternoon. The Golden Eagles used a stellar pitching performance by senior Jack Kelly to claim a 2-1 win in game one before completing the sweep with a 6-2 win in game two.

How it happened:

SJLI's Kelly and UMSV's starter Alex Alverez were locked in a pitching duel through the first three innings, limiting both offenses to just three hits before the Golden Eagles pushed both their runs across in the top of the fourth.Â

Joe Thatcher was hit by a pitch two start the inning and was followed by a hit to center by Lynch. Marco Gullo reached on a sac bunt loading the bases before a sac fly by Joya advanced all runners, 1-0. Mike DiFilippo drew a walk to reload the bases for another sac fly this time by Derek Masino for a 2-0 lead

The Dolphins cut their deficit in half in the bottom of the fifth when a walk and back-to-back single loaded the bases with one out setting up an RBI fielder's choice from Jason Albert, 2-1

Kelly retired UMSV in order in the final two innings securing the 2-1 win

Senior Dante Morabito picked up his third save of the season allowing two hits with four strikeouts in two innings of scoreless relief
How it happened:

Lynch doubled in the left center gap to start the top of the second and came around to score on on a sac fly by Dom Lafroscia later in the inning, 1-0

The Golden Eagles added two runs in the third when DiFilippo knocked in Page with hit to left and after stealing second, and pick off attempt sailed into center field allowing him to score, 3-0

A sac fly by UMSV's Andrew Farina got the Dolphins on the board in the bottom of the sixth, 3-1
-
SJLI got it back in the top of the seventh when an RBI single up the middle by Lucas Quinlan McNally who singled to center to start the inning

After Mt. St. Vincent pushed a run across in the bottom half of the seventh, the Golden Eagles responded with a run in the eighth when McNally tripled in Lynch, 5-2

St. Joseph's added an insurance run in the top of the ninth and Morabito stranded a lead off single on the bottom half of the inning to secure the 6-2 win
Next up, the Golden Eagles host William Paterson University for a non-conference contest at Gregg Alfano Field on Wednesday, April 15th at 3:00 pm.
