Baseball Suffers Skyline Sweep Against Farmingdale; Teams Join for Mental Health Awareness

When and Where:

April 18, 2025 - Patchogue, NY

Records:

St. Joseph's (L.I.), 17-12, 8-4 Skyline; Farmingdale 17-9, 10-2 Skyline

Results:

The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) baseball team dropped a pair of Skyline Conference contests to Farmingdale State University at Gregg Alfano Field on Friday afternoon. The Golden Eagles fell 4-2 in an extra-inning affair in game one before dropping the nightcap 5-1.

Both teams wore shirts and gathered together prior to today's games to bring awareness to mental health in hopes of breaking the silence and ending the stigma. St. Joseph's baseball alum Tom Gray '24 and his father, Jim Gray, mental health awareness advocates, threw out today's ceremonial first pitch.

Game one: SJLI 2; Farmingdale 4 (9 inn.)

Key Players:

How it happened:

  • DiFilippo got the Golden Eagles on the board with a solo home run to left center in the bottom of the first, 1-0

  • Lynch homered to deep centerfield to start the bottom of the fourth, putting St. Joseph's ahead, 2-0

  • A bases-loaded walk and a base hit just off the glove of SJLI reliever Dante Morabito in the bottom of the fifth allowed two Farmingdale runs to score, 2-2

  • Neither side was able to push another run across in the regulation seven innings. Joe Hackal was hit by a pitch to start the bottom of the eighth and was sacrificed to second. A single to center by DiFilippo put two runners on, prompting FSC to intentionally walk Lynch to load the bases, but Farmingdale's Johnny Dougherty struck Joya out swinging to end the inning

  • The Rams started the top of the ninth with back-to-back singles that were sacrificed into scoring position. An intentional walk to Tyler DiRocco loaded the bases for Richie Heyder, who doubled in both runners to go ahead 4-2

  • FSC's Roman Dorosh hit pinch hitter Jake Hall with one out, but retired the next two Golden Eagles to secure the 4-2 win and record his first save of the season

Game two: SJLI 1; Farmingdale 7

Key Players:

How it happened:

  • Farmingdale scored early when DiRocco took SJLI starter Peter Manger's first offering over the left field fence

  • The Golden Eagles evened the score in the bottom of the third when Hackal led off with a double in the left-center gap and was followed by a single to right and a stolen base by Ramlogan. DiFilippo sent a fly ball out to right just deep enough to allow Hackal to score, 1-1

  • After the Golden Eagles left the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth, Farmingdale strung together four hits, including RBI doubles by Mike Kocovic and Heyder and an RBI triple from DiRocoo, putting the Rams ahead 5-1

  • A two-run home run by FSC's Kaolis Delacruz in the top of the seventh moved the score to 7-1

Next up, the Golden Eagles travel to take on Stevens Institute of Technology for a non-conference contest on Tuesday, April 22nd at 7:00 pm.
