The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) baseball team split a pair of Skyline Conference contests with SUNY Old Westbury at Gregg Alfano Field on Thursday afternoon. The Golden Eagles exploded for 19 hits in a 16-1 win in game one before dropping the nightcap 4-3.

Junior Dom Crema went 4-for-5 with two doubles, two RBIs, and a run

Sophomore Joe Thatcher was 3-for-4 with two doubles, an RBI, and four runs

Senior Anselmo Joya finished 3-for-5 with two RBI and a run

Senior starter Peter Manger improved to 4-1 on the season, allowing just one run on four hits with five strikeouts in a complete game effort
How it happened:

Old Westbury got all four of their hits in the top of the first to take a 1-0 lead

St. Joseph's got back-to-back RBI singles by Joya and Jordan Ramlogan with one out in the bottom of the first to go ahead 2-1. A couple of batters later, James Maggio doubled in two runs for a 4-1 lead

After a sac fly in the bottom of the second, the Golden Eagles strung together three hits for two runs in the fourth, 8-1

Mike DiFilippo's two-run home run to left in the bottom of the fifth made it 10-1. SJLI would push four more runs across in the inning, going ahead 14-1

Joya singled in Joe Hackal in the bottom of the sixth, and Maggio drew a bases-loaded walk to move the game to its final 16-1

How it happened:

Old Westbury took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when a pick-off attempt sailed into right, and Nick Papageorge came around to score from second

After Rob Page drew a two-out walk to load the bases in the bottom of the second, DiFilippo sent a single to right, knocking in Joya and Maggio, and put the Golden Eagles on top 2-1

OW's Nick Mace tripled in James Reilly and then scored on a wild pitch in the top of the fourth, giving the Panthers a 3-2 lead

The Panthers added a run in the fifth, 4-2, but doubles from Hackal and Thatcher resulted in a run and inched the Golden Eagles to within one, 4-3

SJLI reliever Tyler Cooney threw a scoreless three innings allowing just two hits with six strikeouts, but OW's RJ Azarieh held the Golden Eagles without a hit in his 2.1 innings of relief preserving the 4-3 winÂ
Next up, the Golden Eagles wrap up the regular season when they travel to Purchase College on Friday, May 2nd. First pitch is slated for 3:00 pm.
