How It Happened

  • Sarah Lawrence opened with a layup by Eamon Kelly, but Esposito tipped in a miss for SJLI, and Hawkins hit a three-pointer to give the Golden Eagles an early lead. Kelly answered with a three to tie it at 5-5.
  • SJLI pulled ahead with baskets from Esposito, Hawkins, and Maxwell, including a layup from Rodriguez, building a 21-12 advantage. Gaston contributed defensively with key blocks and rebounds, helping SJLI take a 31-23 lead into halftime.
  • In the second half, Sarah Lawrence cut into the lead with layups from Gabe Downes, Andrew Kim, and Braden Burman, while Esposito and Gaston kept SJLI within striking distance. Hawkins added points from the perimeter, but turnovers allowed the Gryphons to take control.
  • With about six minutes left, Kim and Burman scored consecutive baskets to give Sarah Lawrence a slim lead. Rodriguez and Esposito answered with inside baskets, but Burman and Downes extended the lead for the Gryphons.
  • Down the stretch, Burman and Kim scored inside, including late free throws, to secure a 62-53 win for Sarah Lawrence over SJLI.
