New York, NY | The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) men's basketball team saw a duo of end-of-season awards when the conference released its All-Conference teams on Tuesday afternoon.
Junior Kenny Rodriguez was named to the All-Conference First Team, while junior
AJ Esposito landed on the All-Conference Second Team.
Rodriguez led the Golden Eagles this season with 417 points, averaging 16.7 points per game, both of which led the team and saw a fifth place finish in the Skyline Conference. The guard also led the team with 101 assists on the year and placed seventh overall in the conference averaging 4.0 assists per game. The junior also placed in the top 10 in the conference and second on the team with 202 rebounds, averaging 8.1 rebounds a game. He was able to land in the top five in the conference in free throw percentage at 79.5% and led the Skyline in three point percentage at 40.2%, averaging 2.0 three pointers made per contest. The Woodside, NY native posted top 10 finishes in the conference in field goal percentage (44.5%), blocks per game (0.8), and placed in the top half of the conference in steals per game (1.2).
The All-Conference member posted a career-high 30 points and 15 rebounds in a matchup with Old Westbury earlier this year. He went on to score 20+ in nine games and reached double-digit scoring efforts in 22 of 25 games. Rodriguez had a double-double in nine different games.
The First Team All-Conference selection secured Skyline Weekly Honor Roll three times and was a Skyline Conference Player of the Week once.
Esposito helped guide the Golden Eagles this season with a strong interior presence as he led the Skyline Conference in rebounding, totaling 300 rebounds on the year, good for third in the nation, averaging 12.0 rebounds per game (3.9 offensive and 8.1 defensive) good for second in the nation. He averaged a double-double on the season and tied for 10th in the nation with 14 double-doubles. The forward landed second on the team with 347 points, averaging 13.9 points per game, good for 12th in the conference, while also claiming the top spot in the league for field goal percentage at 59.2%, also good for a top 40 finish in the nation. The big man was able to secure a top 10 finish shooting 66.4% from the free throw line, and blocked shots at 0.7. The Farmingville, NY native added 42 assists and 14 steals on the season.
The All-Conference member recorded a career-high 28 points, adding 14 rebounds in a win at Mt. St Mary's on January 24. The forward had 22 points and 21 rebounds in a win against Maritime on January 3. He scored in double digits in 22 of 25 games this year.
The Second-Team All-Conference selection garnered Skyline Conference Weekly Honor Roll once this season.
