Baseball Splits with Houghton

March 6, 2026 – Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Results:

The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) baseball team erased an early deficit and used a late offensive surge to defeat Houghton, 9-5, in a neutral-site contest Friday morning.

Key Players:

How it happened:

  • Houghton jumped out to an early 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning after a two-run home run and a pair of run-scoring hits
  • The Golden Eagles answered in the top of the second when Crema launched a two-run home run to right field, cutting the deficit in half, 4-2
  • Both teams were held scoreless over the next three innings as SJLI's Callaghan settled in and kept the Highlanders off the board
  • In the sixth, the Golden Eagles pushed across three runs to take their first lead of the game, highlighted by numerous defensive miscues, making it 5-4
  • SJLI added insurance in the seventh inning as John Margolies singled to centerfield driving in one run to score, followed by a McNally three-RBI triple to center field 
  • Houghton added a run in the bottom half of the inning, but the Golden Eagles responded with another run to secure the 9-5 victory

  • SJLI finished with nine runs on nine hits while Houghton committed five errors in the game
  • Crema's home run marked the Golden Eagles' first long ball of the year

The St. Joseph's University, New York (L.I.) baseball team fell to Houghton College, 15-5, in seven innings during non-conference action on Friday afternoon.

How it happened:

  • Houghton erupted for six runs in the opening inning and added two more in the second to quickly take an 8-1 lead
  • The Golden Eagles got on the board in the first inning and added another run in the fourth to chip away at the deficit
  • SJLI continued to fight back with a two-run sixth inning to make the score 12-4
  • The Golden Eagles plated another run in the seventh, but Houghton answered with three runs in the final frame to secure the 15-5 victory

Notes:

  • Houghton finished with 16 hits compared to five for the Golden Eagles
  • McNally highlighted the SJLI offense with a triple
  • The Knights did most of their damage early, scoring 12 runs over the first three innings

The Golden Eagles continue play in Myrtle Beach as the team takes on Bridgewater State University on Saturday, March 7, at 3:00 PM for a double header.
