How it Happened

  • St. Joseph's (L.I.) took an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Amarando hit a leadoff home run.
  • Wm. Paterson responded with a five-run third inning, capitalizing on three hit-by-pitches, two singles, and a sacrifice fly. St. Joseph's added two runs in the bottom of the third to narrow the gap to 5-3.
  • The Pioneers extended their lead with another five-run inning in the fifth and a third five-run outburst in the sixth, featuring a two-run homer by Julian Pinto and multiple extra-base hits and walks. 
  • St. Joseph's continued to battle, adding single runs in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings on a sacrifice fly and small-ball situations.
  • Wm. Paterson added two insurance runs in the ninth.
