Eagles Drop Two Skyline Games to Farmingdale

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Patchogue, N.Y. – The St. Joseph's Golden Eagles dropped both ends of a Skyline Conference doubleheader to Farmingdale State, 3-1 and 6-2.  The Rams jump to 9-1 in the Skyline and 17-9 overall, while SJC falls to 5-5 in conference and 9-17 for the year.

The Rams got on the board in the opening inning of the first game as designated hitter Dalton McCarthy drove in David Zilnicki with a double to right field.

The score stayed 1-0 until Farmingdale put up another two in the fifth on a two-run single by Ron Remi.  Farmingdale allowed SJC to score a run on a failed pick-off attempt which brought home Alex Ras, who was on second base.

Farmingdale starter Michael Dolce allowed only one run and three hits in eight innings, while walking three and striking out four to improve his record to a perfect 5-0 on the year.  Alex Weingarten picked up his second save with a perfect ninth inning.

The Golden Eagles' Jonathan Beekman (1-3) took the loss, allowing two earned runs over six innings.  Mike Bazoge pitched the three scoreless innings in relief for St. Joseph's.

In game two, St. Joseph's struck early for a run as Ryan Walsh scored on a sacrifice fly by Alex Ras in the first.

Farmingdale's Edward Bergmann tied the game at 1-1 in the third with a squeeze bunt scoring Eric Wiener, who had singled, stole second base then moved over by a Zilnicki single.  They added two more in the fourth on a two-run single by Zilnicki, scoring Wiener and Mike Scarlato.

Ras scored SJC's second run after leading off the bottom of the fourth with a double after a Matt Ginobbi single.

Zilnicki struck again in the sixth with a two-run double, then Anthony Alvino drove him home with a single up the middle to make it 6-2.  Terrence Bohonan went yard in the top of the seventh with a drive over the left field fence to cap the scoring at 7-2.

Anthony Eilers (2-2) pitched five innings for the Rams win allowing only two earned runs and Dan Diblasi (3-2) took the loss for the Eagles as he gave up six runs in 5.1 innings.

St. Joseph's returns to the diamond tomorrow afternoon for another Skyline doubleheader at Yeshiva University at noon.
