Privateers Sail Past Eagles

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Patchogue, N.Y. – The men's baseball team (12-20, Skyline 7-7) was swept by the Privateers of Maritime (12-17, Skyline 6-6) on Saturday.  The two losses dropped the Eagles into a tie with the Privateers for fourth place in the Skyline Conference.

Maritime got on the board first, scoring one in the top of the second and three more in the third off St. Joseph starter Jonathan Beekman.  Beekman pitched eight innings, allowing two earned runs off ten hits, one walk, while striking out five. The Eagles managed to get two runs in the bottom of the third on a sinlge by rightfielder Kenny Willms and a groundout by shortstop Alex Ras.

The Privateers tacked on an insurance run in the top of the fifth. The Eagles only added one more in the bottom of the eighth on a RBI double by Dan Diblasi. Maritime dashed any hopes of a ninth inning comeback with a double-play and held on for the 5-3 win.

St. Joseph's struggled to score runs again in the second game. They were able to get out in front first with two runs coming in the bottom of the fourth.  Anthony Andreani hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Ras and Joseph Calabrese hit a single allowing Thomas Rubinstein to come across the plate.

Maritime answered back with four runs of their own in the top of the fifth off St. Joseph's starter Mike Bazoge. Bazoge lasted five innings and allowed four earned runs, three walks, six hits, and struck out three. Rich Donnelly came on in relief for him and pitched two effective innings, allowing only two batters to reach base.
