Lights-Outsen! Josh Pitches Perfect Game in SJC Sweep of Yeshiva

Riverdale, N.Y. – Sophomore pitcher Josh Outsen (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Copiague) threw a perfect game, with 21-up and 21-down, in game two of St. Joseph's (18-12, 13-1 SKY) doubleheader sweep of Yeshiva University (0-17, 0-14 SKY) Friday afternoon at Van Cortlandt Park.  Outsen (5-1) retired all batters he faced without allowing a hit or a base runner and striking out 12 along the way in the seven-inning game two victory for the Golden Eagles, 11-0.  Game one was a 15-1 win for SJC as they kept up their winning ways to conclude Skyline Conference play.

On his way to perfection, Outsen struck out one in both the first and second before he struck out the side in the third.  He followed with two K's in the fourth, one in the fifth and two each in both the sixth and seventh.  Only three batted balls managed to reach the outfield, while the other six never left the infield.

The Golden Eagles gave their starter an early cushion putting up two runs in the top of the first before he even reached the mound.  The following frame SJC strung together five hits for six runs and were aided by two Yeshiva errors.  In that second inning, Joseph Lynn (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) and James Terry (East Meadow, N.Y./Kellenberg) had two-run doubles, Anthony Andreani (Whitestone, N.Y. /Holy Cross) an RBI single, and Brendan Sullivan (Planview, N.Y./St. Dominic) a sacrifice fly. A Nick Girardi (Syosset, N.Y./St. Dominic) RBI double and another RBI hit each for Andreani and Terry resulted in three runs in the third, and that was all they needed for the 11-run lead.

In game two, James Nakashian (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) went 2-for-2 with three runs scored and three steals, Girardi was 1-for-2 with two RBI, Andreani had a 3-for-3 game with two RBI and two steals, and Terry was 3-for-4 with 3 RBI and a steal.  Anthony Bonilla (Massapequa Park, N.Y./Farmingdale) was 1-for-2 with two runs and a stolen base.

St. Joseph's took game one with a mercy-rule seven-inning ending after they opened the first two innings with four tallies in each.  A single run in the third, fifth and sixth, along with a four-run capper in the seventh, proved it would be a long day for Yeshiva early on.  Seven Maccabee errors didn't help the cause either, but SJC put 12 hits on the board.  Among the offensive stars for St. Joseph's were Bonilla (3-for-3, 3 runs, double, 4 SB) and Girardi (1-for-2, 2 runs, 2 RBI, SB).  Joseph Calabrese (Westbury, N.Y./ W.T. Clarke) was 2-for-2 with a run, two RBI and two steals and Dennis McAllister (Miller Place, N.Y./Rocky Point) was 2-for-3 with a run and RBI.  Sean Balsam (North Massapequa, N.Y./Farmingdale) had two of SJC's four sacrifice flies.  Golden Eagles starter Ryan Aloise (West Sayville, N.Y/Sayville) (4-1) pitched four innings for the win as he struck out eight and allowed three hits.

St. Joseph's will face their brethren from the SJC–Brooklyn campus this Sunday for senior day at Gregg Alfano Field.  Game time is 12:00 p.m.  Next week, the Golden Eagles will host two more non-conference games against John Jay and New Jersey City as they prepare to host the Skyline Conference Championship next weekend as the top-seed.  The winner of the tournament earns the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.  The Golden Eagles first game will be Friday at 1:00 p.m. against an opponent still to be determined.
