Baseball Drops Game to NJCU, 8-5

Box Score

Patchogue, N.Y. – The SJC Golden Eagles hosted a twilight game for the second consecutive night, taking on New Jersey City in a non-conference matchup but lost 8-5. The high-scoring affair saw both teams going back and forth for the entirety of the game. The contest was the Golden Eagles last of the regular season schedule.

SJC got on the board first, posting one run in the bottom of the first inning gaining their first lead of the game. Anthony Bonilla singled to left, scoring James Nakashian who got things started in the inning with his second triple of the season. The Gothic Knights, however, would answer right back in the very next frame, posting a three spot in the top of the second, giving them a 2-1 lead.

After a seven inning scoring lull, the Golden Eagles would awaken the bats again, crossing two runs across the plate on three hits. Joseph Lynn had the big hit of the inning, extending his hit streak to three games by way of a two RBI double. Ryan Walsh and Sean Balsam were plated on the double, making the score 5-3 in favor of NJCU.

The Golden Eagles did a good job of keeping the game close until the top of the ninth came along. The Gothic Knights would tack on a few more runs, posting three runs on two hits and increasing their lead to 8-3. In the bottom of the inning, SJC would have one final chance to either tie, or score enough runs to win in walk off fashion. They did in fact rally, however they fell short only scoring two runs.

St. Joseph's College will host the Skyline Conference Tournament on Friday afternoon, as the #1 Golden Eagles take on the #4 Maritime Privateers at 1 p.m. at Gregg Alfano Field.
