Outsen Throws No-Hitter as Baseball Sweeps Yeshiva

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) baseball team swept the Yeshiva University Maccabees, 15-0 and 16-0, in its Skyline Conference doubleheader at Gregg Alfano Field on early Friday morning. The Golden Eagles improve to 5-3 (2-0 Skyline) on the year with the win as Yeshiva skids to an 0-4 (0-2 Skyline) start.

Game 1

Ryan Walsh led off the bottom of the first with a single, he would score with help from an RBI triple by Matthew Burnett. The Golden Eagles would then double their score as Sullivan drove in Burnett to take a 2-0 lead. Girardi and Sullivan would both cross the plate to close out the first with a 4-0 lead.

In the second inning, Sullivan would drive in the second run of the game, scoring Burnett as SJC upped its lead 5-0.

St. Joseph's broke the game open in the bottom of the third, Libertelli and Burnett would drive in two runners with singles up the middle.  The Golden Eagles batted around the order scoring six runs on five hits to take an 11-0 lead over Yeshiva.

In the bottom of the fourth, Gehrig Montoro came in to pinch hit with the bases loaded and walked to score Mike Griffo. Pinch hitter Matthew Leach would take the first pitch he saw and drive it up the middle to score Libertelli to hold a 13-0 advantage over the visitors.

Following consecutive outs, Burnett would drive in his fourth batter of the game with a fielder's choice. Ryan Aloise would drive the final run of the contest, as SJC would take a 15-0 win in the its Skyline Conference opener.

Girardi fanned 10 batters tossing four hitless innings as he picked up his second win of the season.  Frank DeMaio, Adam Brisman, and Luke Brown all threw an inning each in relief.

Game 2

Joseph Lynn started the second game with a lead-off triple to the right side, Anthony Schuler grounded out to the second baseman drive in Lynn as SJC took a 1-0 lead.

After a silent second inning, Schuler tripled to the right field fence in the bottom of the third. Daniel Campanelli picked up his first RBI of the season with a triple to right field to take a 2-0 advantage.

In the bottom of the fourth, Dennis McAllister doubled to lead-off the inning. Two batters later, Lynn would single up the middle to drive in both McAllister and Libertelli. Bonilla walked with the bases loaded to take a 5-0 lead. Lynn, Bonilla, and Schuler would all score on back-to-back wild pitches. After a McAllister single through the left side, Louis Fontinha tripled down the right field line scoring McAllister and Ferrufino for the 10-0 advantage.

In the bottom of the fifth Danny DiMaio hit a pinch hit triple to right field. Schuler drove in his second batter as SJC extended the score 11-0.

In the sixth inning, Tyler Costa went up to bat with the bases loaded, he singled home McAllister to take a 12-0 lead. DiMaio reached on an error scoring two additional runs. After Campanelli was hit by a pitch, Anthony Aloisio reached on a fielder's choice to drive in the final run in the 16-0 rout over Yeshiva.

Josh Outsen pitched his second career no-hitter against Yeshiva, striking out seven batters and walking two.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, March 12 when they play host to St. Lawrence for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 12:0p AM. Live stats will be available here.
