Patchogue, NY| The fourth seeded St. Joseph's College (L.I.) softball team saw its 2016 campaign come to an end on Wednesday afternoon with a 10-9 defeat to #5 Farmingdale State in the first round of the Skyline Conference playoffs. With the defeat, the Golden Eagles conclude their season with a 21-14 overall mark while the Rams improve to 15-16 and will compete in the final round of the tournament this weekend.

SJC opened the scoring in the bottom of the first when Megan Leun delivered an RBI double down the left field line to score both Mallory McClafferty and Jillian McFadzen. With the next at-bat, Gabrielle Cinquemani used a double to center field to score Leun to increase the Golden Eagles' lead to three runs (3-0).

Two more runs in the bottom of the second (Lindsey Corris RBI single and a Kristin Arbiter RBI double) preceded a three-run bottom of the third for the Golden Eagles in which McFadzen scored Nicole Baron and Madeline Sganga. Sandra Foster would then advance home on the throw as SJC pulled ahead 8-0.

Farmingdale posted one run in both the fourth and fifth innings before exploding for eight in the bottom of the fifth to pull ahead 10-8. In the bottom of the sixth, McClafferty would advance home on a wild pitch to cut the SJC deficit to one run (10-9), but the Rams would blank the hosts in the bottom of the seventh, effectively eliminating SJC from the tournament in the process.

McClafferty (4 K's, 8 hits, 7 ER) started for the Golden Eagles and saw 5.1 innings of action. Ashley Blydenburgh (1-1) finished the sixth inning and took the loss. Foster pitched the seventh and struck out one batter.

Second baseman Elizabeth Rohme went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs in the defeat. Corriss (2-5, 1 RBI, 1 run), McClafferty (2-3, 2 runs) and Leun (2-4, 2 RBI's, 1 run) also recorded multiple hits.
