Baseball Splits Doubleheader With Plymouth St.; 4-3, 6-3

Fort Myers, FL| On Monday morning, the St. Joseph's College (L.I.) baseball team earned a split of a doubleheader against Plymouth St. University in non-conference action at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, FL

The Golden Eagles (4-3) were walked-off 4-3 by the Panthers (3-3) in the opener, before winning the nightcap 6-3.

Game 1: SJC 3, PSU 4

The Golden Eagles would get on the board in the first when Dylan Piscitelli pulled a ball through the ride side to drive in Anthony Bonilla and Tyler Crafa.

The Panthers quickly responded back tacking on three runs in the bottom of the first when Josh Goulet singled home Ryan Richard and took advantage of a bases-loaded walk and a wild pitch.

With two outs in the top of the second, Bonilla drove in Anthony Raucci to knot the game 3-3.

Luke Brown silenced the Panthers' bats sitting down the first 9-of-10 batters he saw.

With a runner on second in the bottom of the seventh, Goulet singled in Eric Leitch to down the Golden Eagles 4-3.

Brown came into relief in the first inning and allowed one run on three hits over 5.2 innings. Bonilla and Raucci both went 2-for-3 scoring one.

Game 2: PSU 3, SJC 6

SJC got on the board in the first as Dennis McAllister drove in Gehrig Montoro for the 1-0 lead.

In the second with the bases loaded, the Panthers answered back when Jimmy Zimolka was hit by a pitch driving in the tying run.

Then, in the third, McAllister plated a pair of runs with a single, giving the Golden Eagles a 3-1 advantage.

The Panthers responded in the visitors' half of the fourth with a pair of runs tying the game 3-3.

SJC retook the lead in bottom half as Louis Fontinha reached on an error which allowed Vincent Biordi to score.

The following inning, Andrew Libertelli hit a single up the middle that scored Raucci extending the Golden Eagles' lead to 5-3.

Fontinha added an extra insurance run when a single to left field scored Montoro to seal the 6-3 victory over Plymouth St.

Nick Clemente scattered four hits and allowed three earned runs over five innings. They lefty struck out three batters and walked four. Mercy College transfer Anthony Caminiti sealed the win for SJC earning his first save of the season in his two innings of work. Caminiti struck out three batters and allowed one hit in the contest.

The Golden Eagles will rest tomorrow before taking the diamond on Wednesday March 22 when the teams spit squads once more to take on Colby College (DH) and Johns Hopkins at 9 AM.
