Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) softball team earned convincing 7-0 and 12-0 victories over SUNY Purchase at home on Saturday in what was the final doubleheader of the regular season.

The Golden Eagles, who honored seniors Gabrielle Cinquemani and Ashley Steponaitis in between games, improve to 19-15 on the year and 14-4 in conference play, good enough for second in the Skyline standings.

The Panthers, meanwhile, slide to 6-10 overall and remain in sixth place in the conference.

SJC 7, Purchase 0

SJC took a commanding 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first and opened the scoring when Cinquemani (2-for-3) walked in Madeline Sganga (0-for-2). Steponaitis (1-for-3) walked in Lyndsay Smocer (1-for-4) with the next at bat before Elizabeth Rohme (1-for-2) scored Kristen Arbiter (1-for-3) with a sac fly and Theresa Cardello (2-for-3) scored Steponaitis with an RBI single to right field.

The Golden Eagles would tack on three more runs in the bottom of the sixth via a Cardello RBI double, Sganga's reaching first on an error and Cinquemani's RBI single through the left side.

Cardello (10-4) pitched all seven innings for the hosts and struck out five batters. Nicole Fortuna (5-5) took the loss for the Panthers.

SJC 12 , Purchase 0

SJC came out hot again, this time going for six runs in a first inning that opened the scoring with a Cinquemani (2-for-4) RBI single to left and ended with a Sganga (1-for-2) RBI single to second.

Cinquemani's two-run shot in the bottom of the second made it a 8-0 advantage for SJC, and a four-run fourth, highlighted by Elise Grau's (1-for-1) two-RBI single to right, ensured it was a 12-0, five-inning victory for the hosts.

Buturla (5-6) earned the win for SJC and retired one batter while Fortuna (5-6) took her second loss of the afternoon for Purchase.

The Golden Eagles return to action in the Skyline Conference Championship, which begins this Thursday, May 4 at top-seed Mount St. Mary. Live stats for the double elimination tournament will be available here.
