Baseball Earns Skyline Split with Mt. St. Vincent

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College baseball team split its second straight Skyline Conference double header on Monday evening. The Golden Eagles cruised to a 7-0 win over the College of Mt. St. Vincent before getting shutout 4-0 in game two.

The Golden Eagles move to 8-6 on the season and 2-2 in Skyline play. The Dolphins even out at 6-6 overall, 3-1 Skyline.

SJC 7, CMSV 0

Both pitchers breezed through the first five innings of play until the Golden Eagles broke up the shutout with five runs in the top of the sixth. Senior Tyler Crafa stated the inning with a single to right-center and stole second to move into scoring position. A misplayed ball off the bat of Tyler Sanderson allowed Crafa to score while putting the third baseman on second. A wild pitch moved him to third to set up an RBI opportunity for senior Daniel Campanelli. Michael Ferrifino and Gehrig Montoro followed with RBIs before a stolen base and an errant throw allowed pinch runner Angleo Montalbano to score the inning's final run.

The Golden Eagles tacked on two runs on the top of the seventh to extend the lead to 7-0.

CMSV's Anthony Nocero led off the bottom half of the seventh with hit to left and was followed by a double to right by Michael Grisanti, but SJC starter Tim Woodford retired the next three batters to end the threat.

Woodford pitched around a couple of baserunners in the eighth before sitting the Dolphins down in order in the ninth to pick up his second win of the season. The junior scattered five hits with three strikeouts in a complete game effort.

Campanelli and Nakashian both finished 2-for-4 with a run scored.

SJC 0, CMSV 4

The Dolphins grabbed an early lead in game two pushing a run across in the bottom of the first and second inning.

After both sides went scoreless in the third and fourth, a two-run double to left from CMSV's Perdo Fortoso in the bottom of the fifth widened the gap to 4-0 and put the game out of reach for the Golden Eagles.

St. Joseph's was held to just six hits as CMSV's starter Jeremy Glazer went the distance for his first win of the season.

SJC's Kevin Czeczotka was tagged with the loss after allowing two runs on five hits in two innings. Nick Mannarino allowed two unearned runs in four innings of relief.

The Golden Eagles return to Gregg Alfano Field on Wednesday, March 27 when they host William Paterson University. First pitch is slated for 4:00 pm.
