Softball Swept in by Paterson in Non-Conference Doubleheader

Wayne, NJ| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) softball team took a pair of road defeats, 9-0 and 12-5, to William Paterson University in a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday evening.

The losses send the Golden Eagles to 6-8 overall on the year as the Pioneers improve to 13-3.

Paterson 9, SJC 0 (5 innings)

The Pioneers scored seven of their nine runs in the second inning and capped off the game's scoring in the third inning when Vanessa Archibold (2-for-3) singled up the middle and scored a pair of runners.

SJC mustered four hits in the contest and they came off the bats of juniors Franzelyn Russo (1-for-3) and Elise Grau (1-for-3) and sophomores Lindsey McKenna (1-for-1) and Katelynn Valente (1-for-2).

Freshman hurler Catherine Zucker allowed seven runs (one earned run) in 1.2 innings of action. Freshman Patricia McGloin tossed 2.1 innings of relief and allowed one earned run and two hits.

Paterson 12, SJC 5

SJC opened the scoring in the first inning when sophomore Lindsey Ness (2-for-4) singled to left center and scored freshman Jenna DeFina (1-0).

Paterson responded with two runs in the bottom of the first and expanded it lead to five runs (6-1) in a four-run second.

Three runs for the guests in the top of the third--RBI's from Grau (1-for-4), sophomore Kassandra Tibbetts (2-for-4) and junior Ashley Accardi(1-for-2)--brought the game to within two runs (6-4), but it would be the closest SJC got to tying the game.

Junior Alyssa Rivera (3-2) took the loss for the Golden Eagles, allowing six earned runs in 2.0 innings. Valente and freshman Samantha Yannetti provided relief efforts.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, March 30 when they visit Sarah Lawrence College for a Skyline Conference doubleheader beginning at 9:30 am.
