Baseball Takes Two From Yeshiva

New York, NY| The St. Joseph's College baseball team earned a pair of Skyline Conference wins on the road at Yeshiva University on Friday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles improve to 12-11 on the season with a 4-6 conference record. The Maccabees fall to 2-16 overall, 0-11 Skyline.

SJCLI 5, YU 1

Five Yeshiva errors resulted in a 4-0 SJC lead heading into the top of the sixth inning. Anthony Raucci singled to lead off the inning, but was erased trying to steal second. Justin Stromski was hit by a pitch and stole second to move into scoring position. A couple batters later, Charles Rainone singled to left scoring Stromski for a 5-0 advantage.

The Maccabees pushed a run across in the bottom half of the inning to bring the score to 5-1, but SJC starter Tim Woodford held the Macs hitless over the final three innings to pick up his third win on the season.

Woodford allowed just one run on three hits with a career-best 16 strikeouts.

SJCLI 17, YU 0

The Golden Eagles scored in six of the seven innings in game two combining for 14 hits.

Jesse Nakashian went 4-for-5 with three runs scored. Gehrig Montoro finished 3-for-6 with three runs scored, two stolen bases and an RBI. Nick Vicino pitched in with two hits and two RBIs.

SJC starter Kevin Czeczotka earned his first win of the season scattering five hits with nine strikeouts in a complete game effort.

The Golden Eagles return to Gregg Alfano Stadium on Sunday April, 7 when they host SUNY Maritime for Skyline Conference double header. Game one is set for 12:00 pm.
