Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's baseball team split a pair of Skyline Conference contests with SUNY Maritime at Gregg Alfano Field on Sunday afternoon. The Golden Eagles earned a 3-1win in game one before dropping game two 4-1.

St. Joseph's moves to 13-12 on the season with a 5-7 conference mark. The Privateers now sit at 16-11 overall, 7-3 Skyline.

SJCLI 3, Maritime 1

The Golden Eagles broke the 0-0 stalemate with a run in the bottom of the third. Tyler Crafa reached on a two-out single to right and came in to score on an RBI triple to center by Tyler Sanderson.

The Privateers even the score with a leadoff homerun off the bat of Travis Zurita in the top of the sixth.

After a scoreless seventh, St. Joseph's pulled ahead with a pair of runs in the bottom half of the eighth. Crafa walked to start the inning and stole second to move into score position. A fly out to right advanced him to third and after Jesse Nakashian reached on an error SJC had runners on the corners with one out. Anthony Raucci laid down a suicide squeeze scoring Crafa and reached base when the Privateers failed to cover first. After the first pitch to Justin Stromski, Nakashian was caught in a run down and managed to elude the tag of Martime's catcher Ryan Rockhill giving the Golden Eagles a 3-1 lead.

SJC starter Anthony Papa was able to pitch around a one-out double in the top of the ninth to secure his second win of the season. Papa allowed one run on six hits with nine strikeouts in a complete game effort.

Maritime's A.J. Ammirati suffered the loss allowing two runs on five hits with four strikeouts.

SJCLI 1, Maritime 4

SJC trailed 3-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth where they broke up the shutout with a run.

Raucci worked a walk to start the inning and advanced to second on a failed pickoff attempt. After a walk to Campanelli, a pinch-hit single from Michael Ferrufino loaded the bases. Gehrig Montoro was hit by a pitch to bring in Raucci, then a sharply hit ball up the middle off the bat of Crafa resulted in a double play to end the inning.

The Privateers added an insurance run in the top of the seventh to claim the 4-1 win.

Nick Mannarino was tagged with the loss allowing three runs on 10 hits and two strikeouts.

The Golden Eagles return to Gregg Alfano Field on Tuesday, April 9 when they host Ramapo College at 4:30 pm.
