Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) men's basketball team lost a highly-entertaining affair to the York College Cardinals, 94-84, in the Danzi on Wednesday evening.

Sophomore center Spencer Malloy was outstanding, scoring a 19-point double-double on 8-11 shooting with 11 rebounds and five assists. The 19 points led the Golden Eagles and were a season-high for the sophomore.

Other impressive performances from SJC came from sophomore forward Timothy Hirdt, who had 15 points on 7-9 shooting and 8 rebounds to go along, and senior guard Matthew Hirdt, who finished with 16 points and a team-high four made three pointers. Freshman forward Alec Tabada was impressive as well with seven points and seven rebounds.

SJC scored the first points of the game, but from there it was the visitors who controlled the first half. The Cardinals shot 48.4% from the field and 50% from three in the opening frame, but despite this, the Golden Eagles found themselves down by only six points at halftime.

After trailing for a good portion of the second half, the Golden Eagles started to battle back. At 9:37, Timothy Hirdt made a layup that brought the home team to within one, and on the next possession, Matthew Hirdt drilled a three to give the Golden Eagles their first lead of the night (67-65).

The Golden Eagles went ahead by as many as four points, but couldn't to hold on. A 50% field goal- and three-point shooting percentage by the Cardinals, as well as a 32-point performance from Quran Dublin, proved too much for the home team to handle. The loss sends SJC to 0-2 to start off the 2021-22 season.

The Golden Eagles seek their first win of the season on Sunday, November 14, when they host the undefeated #2 Yeshiva Maccabees at 1:00 PM.
