Softball Drops Pair to SJC-Brooklyn on Sunday

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) softball team dropped a pair of contests, 6-4 and 13-5, in a Skyline Conference doubleheader at SJC Softball Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

The Golden Eagles, who swept the first two games of the four-game set on Saturday, slide to 12-5 overall on the year and 10-4 in conference play as the Bears improve to 17-6 (12-6).

Game 1: SJCBK 6, SJCLI 4
After pulling ahead 1-0 via senior Kassandra Tibbetts' (1-for-4) RBI double to left in the first inning, the Golden Eagles went up 3-0 in the second inning with a pair of runs off the bats of freshman Samantha Dimezza (0-for-3) and junior Jenna DeFina (3-for-4).

The Bears brought one back in the bottom of the second (3-1) and then tallied five times across the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to pull ahead 6-3.

Senior Lindsay Ness (3-for-4) scored DeFina with an RBI single up the middle in the top of the seventh (6-4) but it would be the only offense the Golden Eagles could muster up in their comeback bid.

Junior Patricia McGloin struck out three and allowed six earned runs in a losing effort for the Golden Eagles.

Game 2: SJCBK 13, SJCLI 5
Ness (1-for-3) and Tibbetts (1-for-3) put the Golden Eagles ahead 2-0 in the first inning with an RBI double and an RBI single, respectively, but the Bears responded with 11 runs in the bottom half of the opening frame (11-2).

Down 11-4 into the top of the sixth, freshman Lauren Crawford (2-for-3) brought another back for the Golden Eagles with an RBI single up the middle that scored Junior Victoria Iavarone (11-5). The Bears would go on to tack on two additional runs in the bottom of the sixth before cruising to a 13-5 win.

Freshman Julia Ruocchio started and took the loss for SJC. Patricia McGloin struck out two and allowed two earned runs in 5.0 innings of relief work.

The Golden Eagles return to action on Wednesday, May 5 when they host Manhattanville College for a Skyline Conference doubleheader beginning at 4:00 pm.
