Baseball Ends Season in Skyline Second Round

Kings Point, NY| The St. Joseph's College baseball team was eliminated from the Skyline Conference Championship Tournament after falling short to second-seeded SUNY Old Westbury and fourth-seeded SUNY Maritime at Bartoszek Field on Friday.

The Golden Eagles (15-9) were shut out by the Panthers (12-4) 3-0 before falling to the Privateers 3-2 (12-11).

Game One: OW 3, SJCLI 0

Despite both sides getting runners on base early on, the game went scoreless into the bottom of the fifth inning until Old Westbury got an RBI double from Shaun Kaminski and was followed up by a two-run home run to left by Oscar Fajardo.

The Golden Eagles failed to answer down the stretch and the Panthers claimed the 3-0 win.

SJC's Phil Krpata and Mike Badala led the Golden Eagles at the plate with two hits apiece.

Kevin Czeczotka suffered the loss allowing three runs on seven hits with four strikeouts. Michael Manzolillo provided an inning of scoreless relief.

OW's Tim Woodford picked up the win scattering seven hits with four Ks in a complete-game effort.

Game Two: Maritime 3, SJCLI 2

The Golden Eagles first to score in the elimination game when Charles Rainone (1-for-4, RBI) reached on a fielder's choice scoring Paul Gugliuzzo (2-for-4, R), and a throwing error brought in Krpata.

The Privateers evened the score with a pair of RBI singles in the top of the seventh.

After SJC stranded a runner on third in the bottom eighth, Maritime got back-to-back one-out singles putting runners on the corners. Jaden Shea laid down a squeeze allowing Adam Mosca to score the go-ahead run.

Gugliuzzo singled with two outs in the bottom half of the nine but was left stranded and the Golden Eagles were eliminated by the 3-2 defeat.

SJC's Anthony Cinquemani took the loss allowing one run on three hits with two strikeouts in 2.1 innings of relief. Starter Daniel Deckert went 6.1 innings allowing two runs on seven hits.

Maritime's Matthew Paghidas earned the win after tossing 5.1 scoreless innings out of the pen.
