Softball Sweeps CMSV in Skyline Doubleheader

Patchogue, NY| The St. Joseph's College (L.I.) softball team secured a sweep of the College of Mount St. Vincent, 11-4 and 13-0, in a Skyline Conference doubleheader at SJC Softball Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

With the wins, the Golden Eagles improve to 5-6 overall on the year and 2-0 in conference play as the Dolphins slide to 3-9 and 0-2.

Game 1: SJC 11, CMSV 4
SJC went ahead early, posting three runs in the first inning via RBI singles by Julia Ruocchio (3-for-4) and Riley Lim-Ellis (1-for-4) and a sac fly from Victoria Iavarone (0-for-3).

Ruocchio doubled SJC's lead in the second (6-0) with a three-RBI double, and Emily Fenezia (2-for-3) extended the advantage to seven runs (7-0) with an RBI double in the fourth.

After conceding three runs in the bottom of the fourth (7-3), SJC went for four runs in the sixth to clinch an 11-3 win. Lauren Crawford (3-for-5), Fenezia, and Ruocchio were credited with RBI singles and Lim-Ellis scored Fenezia after she reached first on a fielder's choice.

Patricia McGloin (W, 2-1) tossed a complete game and struck out a season-best eight batters.

Game 2: SJC 13, CMSV 0 (6 innings)
A three-run first inning was capped off by Lim Ellis' (1-for-2) two-RBI double that scored Ruocchio (1-for-3) and Lindsay Ness (2-for-4).

Single runs in the second, fourth, and fifth innings paved the way for a six-run sixth (13-0) kicked off by Ness' RBI single that scored Fenezia (2-for-5).

Ruocchio (double) and Iavarone (single) scored runs before Jenna Kreiling (1-for-3) knocked in a pair of runs with a triple. Fenezia's single later in the inning scored Crawford for the last run of the afternoon.

Olivia Verderosa (W, 2-1) tossed all six innings and struck out four CMSV batters.

The Golden Eagles return to action tomorrow, April 3, when they host Manhattanville for a Skyline Conference doubleheader at 12:00 pm.
