Baseball Splits with Farmingdale on Friday

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) baseball team split a pair of Skyline Conference contests with Farmingdale State University at Gregg Alfano Field on Friday afternoon.

Game One: SJLI 0, FSC 6
Key Players:
  • Graduate Hermes Abreu recorded the Golden Eagles' first hit of the game in the bottom of the third

  • Senior Jake Giannico sent a single through the right side and finished 1-for-2

  • Junior Joe Sanguedolce went 1-for-3 with a stolen base

  • Farmindale's Jordan Lambert went 2-for-3 at the plate with an RBI and a run scored

How it happened:
  • The Rams got on the board with three runs in the top of the second when they strung together four hits including three doubles 

  • An RBI double from FSC's Louis Annunziata and a sac fly by Daniel Deutsch added two runs in the third

  • Farmingdale added a run in the top of the fourth moving the game to its final 6-0

Notes:
  • FSC's Johnny Dougherty earned the win scattering just four hits while striking out 11 in a complete game effort

  • SJLI's Ryan Foran was tagged with the loss after allowing five runs on six hits

 

Game Two: SJLI 7, Farmingdale 4
Key Players:
  • Senior Nick Vicino went 3-for-3 with two doubles knocking in two runs while scoring one 

  • Paul Gugliuzzo finished 3-for-4 with an RBI, two runs scored, and a stolen base

  • Senior Phil Krpata and Gianicco both recorded a pair of hits with an RBI and a run scored

  • Senior Anthony Cinquemani improved to 4-0 after allowing just four runs on 10 hits with five strikeouts in seven innings

How it happened:
  • After the Rams plated a run in the top of the first, a sacrifice fly from Ryan Decoursey scored Gugliuzzo who was hit by a pitch earlier in the inning

  • The Rams retook the lead with a run in the third, but the Golden Eagles responded with pair of runs in the bottom half of the inning. Gugliluzzo singled through the right side and came in to score on a double to center from Decoursey. John Lynch followed up with an RBI triple putting SJLI ahead 3-2

  • RBIs from Vicino and Giannico in the bottom of the fourth extended St. Joseph's lead to 5-2

  • The Golden Eagles tacked on a run in the fifth when Vicino was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded 

  • Farmingdale pushed a run across in both the sixth and seventh cutting their deficit to two, 6-4

  • The hosts added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth when Gugliuzzo knocked in Giannico who tripled to start the inning

Notes:
  • SJLI's Dante Moribito provided two innings of scoreless relief while fanning three batters

  • FSC's Stephen Clancy suffered the loss after allowing three runs on five hits in three innings

 

Next up, the Golden Eagles will travel to Mt. St. Mary College for a Skyline Conference doubleheader on Sunday, April 2 at 12:00 pm.
