Softball Picks Up a Pair of Victories Against Sarah Lawrence

Results:

The St. Joseph's University (L.I.) softball team emerged victorious in a crucial doubleheader against Sarah Lawrence on Sunday afternoon, securing two important conference victories.

Game One:

Key Players:

  • Senior Kate Kiernan totaled two hits, three RBIs, and two runs scored
  • Senior Madison DiPalo finished with two hits, three RBIs, and two runs scored
  • Senior Samantha Dimezza recorded two hits, one run scored, and three RBIs
  • Sophomore Antonia Busa posted two hits, two runs scored and one RBI
  • Sophomore Caitlyn Herzing pitched five innings, giving up no runs and allowing just one hit

How it happened:

  • After the Golden Eagles scored one in the bottom of the first inning, SJLI followed it up with a 10-run inning on eight hits in the second; Dipalo led St. Joseph's with two RBI triples to left center in the inning.
  • SJLI again added to their lead in the third inning, accumulating five runs on six hits with multiple Golden Eagles recording a run scored and an RBI
  • St. Joseph's held SLC scoreless for the game and secured a 16-0 game-one victory

Game two:

Key Players:

  • Kiernan led the Golden Eagles, going 3-3 at the plate, with three RBIs and one run scored and pitched all five innings not allowing a hit
  • Dimezza went 3-3 at the plate, with two runs scored and two RBIs
  • Freshman Alex Labarba added one hit, two runs scored, and two RBIs

How it happened:

  • As SJLI posted one run scored in the first inning, a Dimezza double in the second inning drove in Samantha Lugo to score to take a 2-0 lead 
  • A Labarba single to right center brought home Jackie Flannery and Dimezza to score before a Kiernan two-RBI home run over the left field wall added to St. Joseph's lead as they held control of the game 6-0
  • The Golden Eagles would again add to their lead in the bottom of the third, totaling four runs on four hits, highlighted by a Busa triple to left-center that drove home both Dimezza and Flannery to score
  • Freshman Emma Rondinella captured the last run scored for SJLI, driving home Salvatto to score on a single to left center to capture an 11-0 game-two victory
Next, the Golden Eagles return to action on Friday, May 3, when they host Hunter College for a non-conference matchup at 4:00 pm.
